Task Description
Saga ( Saga Airdrop) was introduced as a Layer 1 protocol that enabled developers to launch scalable and interoperable dedicated chains, called Chainlets, designed for specific Web3 applications. These chains adjusted elastically based on application needs.
To support early contributors and grow its ecosystem, Saga distributed 60 million SAGA tokens to eligible users, developers, and participants across several blockchains and community quests. The airdrop formed part of Saga’s broader launch strategy, which included a multi-phase rollout, testnet incentives, and token distribution milestones.
How to Claim the Saga Airdrop
To claim SAGA tokens, eligible users followed these steps:
-
Visited the Saga airdrop claim page.
-
Connected a Keplr wallet.
-
Added addresses for other relevant networks like EVM, AVAX, and Celestia.
-
Claimed tokens if eligible.
All claims were required to be completed before March 27, 2024, at 12:00 UTC.
Who Was Eligible for the SAGA Airdrop
Saga targeted users from major blockchain ecosystems and early contributors. The eligibility criteria included:
1. ATOM Stakers
-
Increased stake between April 20 and October 20, 2023
-
Held more than 25 ATOM on October 20, 2023
2. TIA Stakers (Celestia)
-
Staked over 23 TIA on January 12, 2023
3. MATIC Users
-
Staked over 300 MATIC by October 20, 2023
-
Or bridged more than 0.4 ETH via ZKEVM
4. AVAX Stakers
-
Held AVAX on April 20 or October 20, 2023
5. Saga Innovators and Saganauts
-
Participated in tournaments
-
Completed developer stress tests
-
Engaged in social quests
Participants received airdrop allocations based on activity and engagement. Earlier participation resulted in higher token amounts.
When Was the Saga Airdrop
The SAGA token claim period ended on March 27, 2024, at 12:00 UTC. Saga distributed 6% of its total token supply, equivalent to 60 million SAGA, during this initial launch.
Saga planned additional distribution phases:
-
Phases 2–6: Released another 4% of supply (40 million tokens)
-
Post Phase 6: Delivered 10% more (100 million tokens)
Airdrop Structure Across Launch Phases
Saga’s token distribution was divided into three segments:
-
Phase 1 (Genesis Drop): 6% (60M SAGA)
-
Phases 2–6: 4% (40M SAGA)
-
After Phase 6: 10% (100M SAGA)
The protocol awarded higher rewards to participants who completed activities early, especially during the Incentivized Testnet.
Saga Innovator Quest Explained
The Innovator Quest gave developers structured tasks to earn SAGA. These included:
-
Launching a Chainlet
-
Deploying multiple Chainlets
-
Hosting tournaments or conducting NFT drops
-
Sharing demo videos and documentation of launches
-
Submitting gameplay footage
-
Completing POC challenges using Saga’s gaming capabilities, like:
-
Fast bridging
-
Guild-based access
-
Sharded realms
-
Free transactions via recycled gas tokens
-
-
Joining Multiverse collaborations with other Innovators
Activities completed during the Incentivized Testnet, which opened in late October 2023, received bonus token allocations. Saga also offered additional bonuses to developers who shared these activities on social platforms and tagged the official Saga account.
Did End Users Receive Airdrops Too?
Yes. End users of Innovators had a chance to receive SAGA tokens through milestone-based distributions:
-
After Month 1: Innovators reaching 2,000 DAU unlocked the first tranche
-
After Month 3: Innovators hitting 5,000 DAU unlocked the second tranche
These user-based airdrops were released following milestone periods and aligned with Saga’s scheduled distributions. Saga committed to releasing additional eligibility conditions to prevent Sybil attacks.
Who Was Excluded From Saga Airdrop
Saga clearly stated that U.S. Persons were ineligible. This included individuals as defined under:
-
Rule 902 of the U.S. Securities Act of 1933
-
Section 7701(a)(30) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code
Participants were required to confirm their non-U.S. status before completing the claim process.
When Did Saga’s Testnet Launch
Saga’s Incentivized Testnet launched at the end of October 2023. Developers could begin quests immediately. Progress was not reset during transitions to Mainnet or between launch phases.
Although Incentivized Testnet Chainlets were deprecated, all activities completed during that period counted toward airdrop rewards.
Saga also hosted a closed call for Innovators on October 23, 2023, to explain the Quest requirements.
What Happened If You Weren’t an Innovator?
Saga confirmed that additional airdrop rounds would include broader community members. The team planned to release participation criteria in future blog posts.
Developers not onboarded during the initial Innovator cohort were encouraged to reach out and join the final group before Mainnet.
