YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) – Tom Brady, an American football quarterback, is the latest celebrity to ape into the Metaverse via the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC).

The National Football League (NFL) star, representing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reportedly purchased Ape #3667 nonfungible token (NFT) for 133 Ethereum tokens (ETH). In fiat currency terms, that number amounts to over $450,000.

Amid speculations of his recent purchase, the NFL star confirmed the news on his Twitter handle. Cracking a marijuana-smokers joke, he claimed “he did not inhale,” referring to the cigarette in his ape’s mouth. He was replying to a tweet by Tripsters, a BAYC holders-backed platform focused on bringing psychedelics to the NFT realm.

However, Brady is not a newcomer to the blockchain world. Besides his Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT purchase, he has had other engagements in the space. In April 2021, he announced plans to launch his NFT platform, Autograph. The following month Brady posted a new profile picture depicting him with laser eyes. The move confirmed that the athlete had cashed in on the Bitcoin (BTC) craze.

The #LaserEyesBitcoin campaign later trended on Twitter. Many celebrities and lawmakers changed their profile pictures depicting them with laser eyes to show support for Bitcoin (BTC). The campaign hoped to push the price of BTC to the $100K-mark.

Last December, Brady sold an NFT collection titled ‘Live Forever: The Tom Brady Origins Collection.’ His platform, the Autograph, facilitated the sale. According to a report by Bloomberg, Brady and his wife also acquired an equity stake in the cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The young billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried leads the crypto firm that roped Brady in.

Bored Ape Yacht Club is hot among NFL stars

Brady’s acquisition of the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT puts him among the ranks of some of his friends in the National Football League (NFL). But, as evident from some of the recent purchases, other legends from his sport are also proud owners of BAYC NFTs.

Former Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant holds Ape #2902 while Buffalo Bills defensive end Von Miller flaunts at least two BAYC NFTs, Ape #1432, and Ape #4733.

Andrew Sendejo, the former Cleveland Browns defender also joins the list with his Ape #4247, along with other names that include Brandon McManus (Apes #2760 & #1456) and Marlon Humphrey (Ape #1880.

With another celebrity added to its list, the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) continues to be one of the highest sought-after NFT collections.
