NEW DELHI (CoinChapter.com) — Bangladesh is facing severe power outages after the national power transmission grid failed on Oct 4. Following the Bangladesh power grid failure, Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Barisal, and Mymensingh divisions plunged into darkness.

According to officials at the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), the fault originated somewhere in the eastern part of the country and snowballed from there.

The power outages started around 2 pm (Bangladesh Standard Time, BST). Although officials claim they can resolve the issue in a few hours, it seems unlikely since the source of the Bangladesh power grid failure remains unknown.

Bangladesh Power Grid Failure Has Impacted Communications

Meanwhile, the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) released a statement stating that Telecommunication and internet services would face disruptions due to the Bangladesh power grid failure.

Due to national power grid failure, telecommunication services may disrupt in some parts of the country. We are sorry for the inconvenience,

AMTOB said in its statement

Power outages are nothing new in Bangladesh. The country suffered widespread outages a month back when a transmission line snapped. It seems likely that the Bangladesh power grid failure might result from poor infrastructure maintenance.

In addition, the entire country went dark for 12 hours in Nov 2014. Safe to say, the Bangladesh power grid needs an overhaul to continue serving the increasing load efficiently.
