YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) – Ethereum’s Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin has slammed Russian President Vladimir Putin over his invasion of Ukraine. Coming out in strong protest, Buterin did not mince words. He went as far as calling the military action by the Armed Forces of Russia a crime against the people of both countries.

“Very upset by Putin’s decision to abandon the possibility of a peaceful solution to the dispute with Ukraine and go to war instead. This is a crime against the Ukrainian and Russian people. I want to wish everyone security, although I know that there will be no security. Glory to Ukraine,”

 the Buterin tweeted in Russian.

In detail, Vladimir Putin ordered Russian troops to launch a “special military operation” in the Eastern regions of Ukraine. Earlier this week, Putin signed a decree to recognize the independence of the two self-proclaimed rebel republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.

According to the Russian President, the military has gone to protect the people of those regions. However, Western powers and Ukraine’s allies have called it a gross violation of international law.

However, Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba termed the assault a “full-scale invasion,” denying Russian claims that the action is limited to the eastern part of the country.

“Peaceful Ukrainian cities are under strikes. This is a war of aggression. Ukraine will defend itself and will win. The world can and must stop Putin. The time to act is now,”

the foreign minister said.

“Ethereum is neutral, but I am not,” Buterin claims amid Ukraine crisis

It is no secret that Buterin is Russian himself. He was born in Kolomna, an ancient city in the Moscow oblast. However, the 28-year-old entrepreneur, who made a name for himself in his adopted nation Canada, has essentially gone against his native country.

Refusing to maintain neutrality, he has hinted he supports Ukraine, cheering the underdog with “Glory to Ukraine” in his tweet.

However, to make sure Ethereum (ETH) does not face the consequences of his tweet, he has distanced the project from it.

“Reminder: Ethereum is neutral, but I am not,”

he reassured.

Members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) conducted an emergency meeting to discuss the crisis in Ukraine. Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg also called Russia’s actions “a full-scale invasion of Ukraine” in a press conference following the meeting.

Meanwhile, the development has impacted the cryptocurrency market. Bitcoin (BTC) has fallen back to the $35,000 mark as the market painted charts red.
