Fact Check: Did SBF Attempt Suicide and was allegedly rushed to a hospital in the Bahmas?

Sam Bankman-Fried had been deemed a “suicide risk.

NEW DELHI (CoinChapter.com) — The Bahama Press reported that Sam Bankman-Fried was allegedly rushed to a hospital in the Bahamas.

In an Instagram post, the news agency stated that the founder of the now-defunct crypto exchange FTX was in the hospital ER after an incident. The post cited the presence of “scores of police vehicles” to justify its claims.

The report resulted in netizens taking to Twitter to ask, “Did SBF Attempt Suicide?”

The Bahamas Press’s sources recanted from their statement of SBF being in the hospital.

However, minutes later, the Bahamian news agency shared another post, stating that its sources now said that Bankman-Fried was at the Department of Corrections and not in the hospital. BP questioned the changed statement by highlighting the presence of multiple police vehicles.

Later, Bahamas Press corrected itself, explaining that it was a high-ranking police officer at the hospital. The reason also justified the presence of police vehicles at the scene.

But, reports of Bankman-Fried’s alleged injury spread like wildfire. Twitter was abuzz with activity, with many users looking for answers on the microblogging platform. Moreover, the rumors gained sustenance from the fact that Sam Bankman-Fried was a “suicide risk.”

Did SBF commit suicide in prison was the question of the day on Twitter.

Did SBF Commit Suicide?” Conspiracy Theorists Allege It Might Be Possible

In addition to rumors, the conspiracy mill was also working overtime. Several Twitter users found the change in the Bahamas Press report suspicious after the news agency changed its statement.

Besides the changed BP report, conspiracy aficionados also cast a suspicious light on the timing of Bankman-Fried’s arrest in the Bahamas. Several Twitter posts alleged that the FTX founder might be “suicided” in jail, a term that refers to a murder disguised as a suicide.

Rumors of Sam Bankman-Fried’s death have been doing the rounds for some time now. In Nov, a Reddit post claimed that Bankman-Fried had died in the Rosewood Baha Mar hotel in Nassau. The post stated that “while still unofficial,” the likely cause of death was suicide.

Bahamian officials have placed the disgraced crypto guru in Nassau’s Fox Hill detention facility. The jail — the only prison in the Bahamas — is famous for chronic overcrowding as well as rodent and maggot infestations.

Bankman-Fried had requested house arrest and a $250,000 bail because of his veganism, depression, and dependence on medication, but the courts denied his request.
