YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — In yet another historic first, Donald Trump became the first President of the United States to be arrested and charged with a crime in the country.

The Republican strongman, who served in the White House between 2017 and 2021, pleaded not guilty in a Manhattan court before walking out following his arraignment.

Manhattan district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, charged Trump with 34 felony counts. The charges are linked to a hush payment to pornstar Stormy Daniels (Stephanie Clifford), who claimed she had an affair with the former President.

In detail, Donald Trump had an affair with Stormy Daniels in 2006. Ten years later, in 2016, Michael Cohen, the then-lawyer of presidential candidate Trump, allegedly paid her $130,000 to buy her silence.

At the time of the alleged affair, Trump was already married to his current wife, Melania. When Trump’s campaign team discovered that Danniels wanted to sell her story to US Publications, they paid her hush money and asked her to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

This in itself is not illegal under US law. However, Alvin Bragg alleged that Trump violated the law when he reimbursed Cohen. According to the prosecutor’s office, it amounted to campaign fund mismanagement. Moreover, the former President allegedly falsified business records and broke election laws to hide the payments.

His arrest and indictment have received a mixed response from US Citizens.

Donald Trump’s so-called arrest was nothing like the usual. The police did not break into his residence to arrest him, nor did they handcuff and drag him on the streets. He did not go for a mug shot either. Instead, Trump comfortably drove to the District Attorney’s office with his presidential-style convoy, surrounded by his secret service agents.

On his way to the Manhattan Criminal Court, Trump sent a message to his followers on his Social Media platform TruthSocial.

Following his arraignment, Trump flew back to Florida in a private jet, where he slammed the Biden Administration for his arrest.

Talking about the District Attorney from his private resort Mar-a-Lago, he accused the DA of election interference. Trump has already announced that he will run again for President in the 2024 elections.

“He knew there was no case. That’s why last week he delayed for a month and then immediately took that back and threw this ridiculous indictment together,”

Trump said.

The real-estate Mogul and hotelier claimed the only crime he has committed “is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it.”

Several Republican party colleagues and Trump supporters also protested the legal process started against him. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy even threatened action against DA Bragg.

“Alvin Bragg is attempting to interfere in our democratic process by invoking federal law to bring politicized charges against President Trump… Bragg’s weaponization of the federal justice process will be held accountable by Congress,”

he wrote.

The case has received the attention of not only the international media but foreign Governments as well.

El Salvador President Nayib Buekele Slams US Democracy

The United States is caught in its internal issues stemming from Trump’s arrest. However, the Republicans aren’t all the Biden Administration has to worry about.

Some ‘victims’ of the US foreign policy have started speaking out. As a result, relations between the United States and El Salvador have become growingly sour. Since the country’s Bitcoin (BTC)-friendly president Nayib Bukele took office in 2019, tensions have grown between Washington and San Salvador.

The Biden Administration sanctioned Bukele’s inner circle and cut millions in funding to the country.

Bukele, who will be the first El Salvadoran President to seek re-election, has been an outspoken critic of President Biden.

Following Trump’s arrest, he questioned the US commitment to Democracy.

“Imagine if this happened in any other country, where a government arrested the main opposition candidate,”

Bukele slammed.

With support and criticisms pouring in, Trump has surely made history. He became the first US President to be impeached Twice and the first to be indicted. Now, he has become the first President to be arrested.

His trial, according to reports, may begin as late as January 2024, with several court appearances in between. The legal proceedings may turn messy with the US Presidential elections scheduled at the end of next year.

However, the United States may still see Donald Trump and Joe Biden face off again in November 2024.
