Gavin Newsom Pushes ‘Trump Corruption Coin’ Against MAGA Memecoins

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans for a memecoin called Trump Corruption Coin. He revealed the idea during an interview on the “Pivot” podcast.

Newsom said the memecoin is part of his Campaign for Democracy program. He explained that funds from the project will support redistricting efforts and voter outreach.

“We’re about to put a meme coin out,”

Newsom said.

“And you know what, Donald Trump? We’ll see how well your coin does versus our coin.”

When asked if he would name it “Gavin Coin,”

he replied:

“None of this is normal.”

Trump Corruption Coin Targets Trump’s Crypto Deals

The Trump Corruption Coin announcement comes as Donald Trump continues to expand his presence in cryptocurrency. His recent financial disclosures show large profits from blockchain-linked projects.

In June 2025, Trump reported $57.4 million in income from his stake in World Liberty Financial. His filing with the Office of Government Ethics stated that he owns 15.75 billion WLFI governance tokens. The document confirmed the income came from token sales.

Trump has also hosted private events tied to his memecoin activity. Earlier this year, he held a dinner with buyers of his Trump-themed token. His firm, Trump Media and Technology Group, said in July that it holds more than $2 billion in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

A report by The New Yorker estimated that Trump’s crypto-linked ventures have earned about $2.4 billion since 2022. The report added that these projects now make up 44 percent of his financial wealth after his presidency.

Newsom Uses Trump Corruption Coin for Political Messaging

Governor Newsom has paired the Trump Corruption Coin plan with a wider campaign mocking Trump’s communication style. On his official X account, he copied Trump’s well-known use of all-caps posts.

In one post, Newsom wrote:

“EXCEPT WHAT IS WRITTEN AND BROADCAST IN THE FAKE NEWS, I NOW HAVE THE HIGHEST POLL NUMBERS I’VE EVER HAD, SOME IN THE 60’S AND EVEN 70’S. THANK YOU. MAKE AMERICA GAVIN AGAIN!!! — GCN.”

Along with the posts, he introduced an online store selling MAGA-style products. The store features red hats carrying the slogan:

“NEWSOM WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING.”

The Trump Corruption Coin is positioned by Newsom as part of this broader strategy, combining cryptocurrency with political messaging.
