Moonbirds flips Mutant Ape and Bored Ape, records $1 million sale

LAGOS (CoinChapter.com) — The hype surrounding non-fungible tokens (NFTs) doesn’t seem to be dying anytime soon as Moonbirds at the weekend sold an NFT for 350 ETH (over $1 million) on OpenSea.

In detail, Moonbirds a newly launched NFT collection made the record sale from the selling of Moonbird #2642. This was just as the NFT collection surpasses Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) and Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) in terms of sales volume on OpenSea.

Data from the NFT marketplace revealed that Moonbirds is currently the highest-selling NFT collection in the last 7 days. The NFT which started selling nine days ago currently has about $130 million in sales volume.

However, MAYC, BAYC, and CryptoPunks have a sales volume of about 65 million, 45 million, and 16 million respectively. Additionally, Moonbirds have a current floor price of 33.2 ETH, according to OpenSea.

It is also worth noting that The Sandbox, a blockchain-based gaming firm purchased Moonbird #2642. Moreover, “oscuranft” who sold the NFT earned a profit of about $600,000 having bought it for 100 ETH a week ago.

Additionally, Murakami.Flowers Seed was among other notable collections that made it into the top ten NFT collections by weekly sales volume. Others include RTFKT-MNLTH, Bored Ape Kennel Club, VeeFriends Series2, Beanz, and CloneX- X Takahashi Murakami.

What are Moonbirds NFTs?

Moonbirds are a collection of 10,000 NFTs issued under the ERC-721 standard on Ethereum’s network. The collection was launched on April 16 and is one of the fastest collections to reach bluechip status in terms of floor price.

Moonbirds was launched by Proof, a media startup founded by renowned venture capitalist Kevin Rose. According to the official website, Moonbirds represent utility-enabled PFPs that feature a richly diverse and unique pool of rarity-powered traits.

The NFT collection also was also designed with a nesting feature. This feature allows holders to stake their NFTs in a non-custodial way and earn additional benefits.

Additionally, holders of the NFT will be able to unlock membership to a private club. They will also gain access to Proof’s private Discord channel, and early access to the Proof podcast and events.

Rose, Beeple, Jimmy Fallon Responsible For Fast Growth

Meanwhile, several factors have been credited for the fast growth of Moonbird’s NFTs collection. The success of Proof previous NFT collection has been fingered as one of the main reasons for Moonbird’s quick success.

Kevin Rose’s influence in the NFT industry has also been credited for the project’s growth. Rose has indicated that there are ongoing plans to ensure the project grows remarkably and benefits holders.

Endorsements from several celebrities have also been credited for the NFT’s remarkable growth. Jimmy Fallon via his official Twitter handle has earlier declared support for the NFT collection.

Jimmy Fallon is known in the NFT community as a collector, invariably his tweet will boost buying of an NFT. Popular digital artist Michael Joseph Winkelmann, commonly known as Beeple has also endorsed the NFT collection.
