NEW DELHI (CoinChapter.com) — North Korea’s government has categorically denied any “arms dealings” with Russia and stated that it has no plans to do so, per a report in the state-run KCNA.

The US alleged that the authoritarian country was likely supplying Russia with artillery shells for its war against Ukraine. Last week, White House National Security spokesperson John Kirby stated that North Korea was obscuring shipments by funneling them through countries in the Middle East and Africa.

The US was also mulling over imposing sanctions on North Korea, among other options. Meanwhile, Washington said it would continue monitoring to see whether Russia received the shipments.

The Biden government also accused Iran of supplying Russia with drones, which Russia is currently using in its war against Ukraine.

North Korea is one of the few countries that expressed support for Russia’s war against Ukraine, one of the few countries to recognize the independence of the breakaway Ukrainian regions.

Additionally, experts believe North Korea remains a good ammunition supplier for Russia since they keep a significant stock of shells.

Moreover, in Sept, US intelligence stated that Russia was planning to purchase millions of rockets and artillery shells from Pyongyang. North Korea denounced the report, condemning the US for its “reckless remarks” and advising the superpower to “keep its mouth shut.”

An Attempt To Tarnish Our Image,” Says North Korea

The vice director for Military Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of National Defence issued a statement saying that the allegations levied by the US were rumors. In addition, the official claimed that Pyongyang has “never had ‘arms dealings’ with Russia” and does not plan to do so in the future.

We regard such moves of the U.S. as part of its hostile attempt to tarnish the image of the DPRK in the international arena by invoking the illegal “sanctions resolution” of the UNSC against the DPRK.

The official said

An arms deal with Russia would help deepen the tie between the two countries, with Moscow’s growing isolation over its war with Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the statement from Kirby hints that while Washington will track the shipments, but would likely not intercept them. This suggests the US does not believe that the shipments would significantly impact the Ukraine war.
