YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — United States presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has promised to pardon Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, if elected. RFK Jr. took to social media to criticize Ulbricht’s two life sentences, calling them excessively harsh for hosting an e-commerce platform. He shared a petition urging for Ulbricht’s release.
Kennedy has consistently shown support for blockchain and cryptocurrency. In 2023, he proposed backing the U.S. dollar with Bitcoin and eliminating capital gains tax on Bitcoin, arguing it would help stabilize the global reserve currency.
Critics accused Kennedy of promoting Bitcoin without personal investment. In response, he purchased Bitcoin for each of his seven children.
“I’m going to put my money where my mouth is,”
Kennedy said on X.
Kennedy is against central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), citing privacy concerns and structural weaknesses in the traditional banking system. Former President Donald Trump shares these concerns and has also opposed CBDCs.
Kennedy suggested placing the entire U.S. fiscal budget on the blockchain to ensure transparency and accountability. This proposal stands out as no other U.S. politician has made such a suggestion.
As the 2024 election nears, the topic of pardoning American dissidents is gaining traction. Along with RFK Jr., former President Trump and former GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy have also expressed support for pardoning figures like Julian Assange and Edward Snowden.
Ramaswamy, who exited the race and endorsed Trump, stated he would pardon Ulbricht, Assange, and other non-violent prisoners on his first day in office. Trump hinted that Ramaswamy might join his future cabinet if he wins in 2024.
RFK Jr. has pledged to pardon Julian Assange and whistleblower Edward Snowden if elected. These promises align with other candidates advocating for changes in the treatment of non-violent prisoners.
The idea of pardoning these high-profile figures has become a significant issue in the 2024 election. RFK Jr.’s commitment to this cause, along with his support for blockchain technology, highlights his distinctive position in the presidential race.
