NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski has partnered with NFTs marketplace OpenSea to release five digital trading cards featuring Super Bowl moments. The NFTs will feature Gronkowski’s career highlights and are designed by visual arts studio Black Madre.
Gronkowski spoke on why he decided to enter the digital assets space in an interview with CNBC. “I see what’s going on, and it’s just exploding,” he said. “I wanted my fans that are living in the digital world to be able to get a piece of this action.”
The hand illustrations will emulate iconic plays from the Super Bowls Gronkowski participated in. Additionally, Gronkowski will also sign the digital cards. These NFTs will not include NFL team logos however, as OpenSea doesn’t have licensing permission from the league.
“With the rapid success of NFT’s across platforms like NBA Topshop and Opensea, I wanted to take the business into my own hands and be the first professional athlete to launch my own NFT collection,” Gronkowski said in a press release.
Gronkowski NFT To Be Available On The Ethereum Blockchain
The NFTs will be available on the Ethereum blockchain. The collectibles are four moments, 87 editions each, from Gronkowski’s appearances in Super Bowl XLIX, LI, LIII, and LV. In addition to the 348 NFTs, one “refractor card” will be auctioned as well. The owner of this NFT will receive a meet and greet with Rob Gronkowski at an NFL game next season.
OpenSea CTO Alex Attalah added that this Gronk offering is the first of its kind on the platform. The sale will be part of OpenSea drops, a new initiative meant to highlight “exceptional content in the growing NFT space.”
The NFTs will be available for auction for 48 hours on GRONKNFT.com, between March 11 and March 13. Payments can only be made in ETH and they will not accept credit cards. Users must also set up an OpenSea account and a MetaMask wallet.
