Russia launches 75 new missiles on Ukraine: Deaths, destruction follows

YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — Russia has once again ramped up its aggression against Ukraine, launching aerial attacks on multiple cities. The latest overnight bombings, including in the capital Kyiv, triggered massive explosions. Kharkiv, which is the second-largest city in the country, also fell victim to indiscriminate shelling by Vladimir Putin’s forces.

According to reports, Vladimir Putin’s forces fired up to 75 missiles into Ukrainian territories. Even cities that are far from the direct conflict zone were not spared.

As the cities went up in flames, authorities reported that more than 10 people have been killed in the shelling. In addition, around 90 have been wounded in various parts of the country. This is the first major strike on the country’s capital in months.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, Russia deliberately targeted civic and energy infrastructures, bridges, and power grids.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the country’s president, accused the Kremlin of indulging in terrorist activities while claiming to agree to negotiations.

“They want to create pannic and chaoes, destroy our energy system. Their second target is peopl.e They delibertely chose such a time and such targets in order to cause as much harm as possible,”
Zelensky said through a video message shot on his mobile.

As a result of the attack, residents of Kyiv took refuge in the city’s subways, which has served as an interim bunker since the war began earlier this year.

Airstrikes on Ukraine under new war commander Sergei Surovikin

The latest attack on Ukraine comes days after Vladimir Putin made important changes on the war front. As last week came to a close, the Kremlin announced that General Sergei Surovikin will henceforth lead the war efforts in Ukraine.

Suvorikin, who commanded Russian troops in Afghanistan, Syria, and Chechnya is a notorious figure. He has been accused of perpetrating war crimes on various fronts, including firing on Russian citizens in 1991, before the collapse of the USSR. For this act, along with his alleged involvement in an illegal arms trade, he was jailed twice.

Gen. Sergei Surovikin is the new Russian commander in Ukraine

Both in the Russian army and abroad, Gen. Surovikin has earned a reputation for being very ruthless and inconsiderate. According to a 2020 report by Human Rights Watch, Surovikin was among “Russian civilian and military commanders who may bear command responsibility for violations during the 2019-2020 Idlib offensive.”

The change in leadership comes weeks after Ukrainian forces liberated thousands of kilometers of lost territory from Russian control in various regions.

Through his appointment, Putin hopes the General will implement some of his brutal techniques to defeat the Ukrainian forces who are unwilling to concede defeat.

Russia accuses Ukraine of terrorism for the Crimea bridge attack

The indiscriminate shelling of Ukrainian cities comes hours after the attack on the Kerch bridge. The Crimea bridge, as it is more popularly known, connects Russia to the Crimean Peninsula, which the Kremlin annexed from Ukraine back in 2014.

According to preliminary reports, a truck explosion was responsible for the partial destruction of the bridge. Although traffic resumed hours later, Putin launched an investigation into the incident.

Unsurprisingly, the Kremlin blamed Ukraine for the “terrorist attack” on the Kerch bridge.

“If attempts to carry out terrorist attacks on our territory continue, Russia’s response will be severe and at the level of the threats facing it. Nobody should be in any doubt,”
Putin said on Monday.

Furthermore, he declared that Russia could not have left the attack unanswered, taking direct responsibility for the recent airstrikes.

Kyiv has debunked Russia’s accusations over the Crimean bridge attack.

Meanwhile, Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, rubbished the Kremlin’s claims. He pointed out that Russia has repeatedly shelled his country before and the Kerch bridge was just a pretext for a new attack.

Reaffirming its support for Ukraine, the international community has unanimously condemned the recent attacks by Russia. However, judging by the developments, these too will fall on Putin’s deaf ears, unfortunately.
