Shytoshi Kusama, the enigmatic lead developer of the Shiba Inu (SHIB) coin, has announced plans to step down from his role by the end of this year. This revelation came during a recent episode of the AB Majlis podcast, where Kusama and fellow developer Kaal Dhairya discussed their intentions to hand over control of the project to its community.

A Move Towards True Decentralization

Kusama and Dhairya explained that their decision to step down is part of a broader plan to achieve “true decentralization” of the Shiba Inu network. This move follows the original vision of the project’s founder, Ryoshi, who mysteriously disappeared in 2022.

“At the end of this year, we will hand everything over to the community, and we step away,” Kusama stated during the podcast. Both developers emphasized that this decision is about empowering the community rather than abandoning the project.

Throughout their time leading Shiba Inu, Kusama and Dhairya have maintained strict anonymity, using masked appearances and voice modulation in public communications. Dhairya described their anonymity as a “superpower,” allowing them to blend in with the community and gather honest feedback.

This anonymity has been crucial for the project’s development. As Dhairya explained:

That is the way that we can blend in with the community and get their input when we need to, and we can just get the true honest feedback when we need to.

Kusama also addressed the burning question of whether he would reveal his true identity. “It’s not a goal that I have,” Kusama stated. “I’m no one special, definitely not a looker by any means. So, there’s no need for my face to become a public figure.”

He further emphasized that the project’s success was never about individual leaders like himself or Dhairya, but rather the collective effort of the entire Shiba Inu community.

Kusama made his first-ever public appearance in Japan last month, wearing a Batman-styled mask. It seems this mask will continue to be the defining feature of Kusama’s public persona.

As of this writing, Shiba Inu coin price was trading at $0.00001382, up 5.7% from a day ago.
