Who is running the US government? Biden ‘surprised’ to learn of classified docs at Penn think tank: “I don’t know what’s in them”

YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — US President Joe Biden has found himself in the middle of a fresh controversy. After certain classified documents were recovered from his private office at the Penn Biden Center, the Democratic leader claimed he had no clue what was in them. To make matters worse, he doesn’t even know how they got there.

“I was briefed about this discovery and surprised to learn that there were any government records that were taken there to that office. But I don’t know what’s in the documents. My lawyers have not suggested I ask what documents they were,”  

the US President said in response to reporter questions at the North American Leaders Summit in Mexico City.

Biden also claimed that his lawyers were the ones who found the documents and turned them in and that he was cooperating with the authorities. 

Biden’s attempts to feign ignorance have become the reason for much criticism and ridicule. While his opponents have hit out, demanding explanations, many citizens wonder what other skeletons are hiding in the US President’s closet. 

Biden’s lawyers found the documents in boxes stored at the University of Pennsylvania’s Biden Center for Diplomacy in Washington. The then Vice-President Joe Biden was an honorary professor there until 2019.

According to several reports, some items found at Biden’s office included US intelligence memos and briefing materials concerning Ukraine, Iran, and the UK.

A deliberate obstruction of justice before US elections? 

The fact that several classified documents ended up in Joe Biden’s private office at the Penn Biden Center is scandalous enough. However, what has caught the attention of many is that it has come to light now. Lawyers discovered the documents last year in November. 

It has not skipped the attention of the Republicans or civil society that the discovery came just days before the mid-term elections in the United States. Yet, the law enforcement authorities in the country deliberately hid this fact until today, knowing the political implications it would have for the Democrats. 

Edward Snowden, a famous whistleblower and a former intelligence contractor for the US National Security Agency (NSA, pointed this out in a tweet. 

“The real scandal isn’t that Biden had classified documents coming out of his socks, because sadly they’ve all been doing it. The scandal is that the DOJ found out about it a week prior to the midterm elections and chose to suppress the story, conferring a partisan advantage,” 

he wrote on Twitter. 

In a subsequent post, Snowden also questioned the selective approach of law enforcement authorities. He gave the example of Reality Winner, a former intelligence contractor sentenced to 5 years in prison for leaking a classified report on the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. 

The whistleblower wanted to know why politicians don’t receive the same treatment, including former US President Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Hilary Clinton. 

Nonetheless, US Attorney General Merrick Garland has assigned the US attorney in Chicago to review the classified documents.

Joe Biden raided Donald Trump for classified documents

The discovery of classified documents in Joe Biden’s office at the Penn Biden Center has reminded people about the raid of Donald Trump’s resort at Mar-a-Lago. 

After former US President Donald Trump left office, the National Archives informed the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that he might have several classified information. The concern came after they found more than 150 sensitive documents when it got the first batch of material from the former president.

The FBI, alarmed at the news, sought and received a search warrant from the US Court of the Southern District of Florida. Armed with it, they raided Donald Trump’s club and resorted to Mar-a-Lago. 

The raid discovered more than 300 documents (over 700 pages) with classified markings. 

While Donald Trump later claimed he had declassified those documents when in office, it created a political storm. 

His supporters and party members now want to know why nobody has raided current US President Joe Biden. Republican Congressman Ronny Jackson called the double standards of the Justice Department “outrageous.” 

What makes things even more ridiculous is that Joe Biden condemned Donald Trump for taking the documents to his private residence. 

“How does that happen? How could anyone be that irresponsible….it’s just totally irresponsible,” 

Biden told in an interview with Scott Pelley last September. 

The Republicans will not let this go easily. The classified documents could cost Joe Biden his presidency when he seeks a second term.
