Key Takeaway

  • Rap singer Eminem has joined the BAYC club after paying $452,000 for Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT.
  • The person who sold the NFT to him paid only 6 WETH or $12,000 less than 6 months ago
  • Eminem is one of the several celebrities that now own a BAYC NFT.

YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) – Marshall Mathers, popularly known by his stage name Eminem has jumped on the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) bandwagon. The world-famous rapper reportedly paid 123.45 ETH or $452,000 for the Bored Ape NFT.

Eminem is among the latest celebrities to buy an Ape NFT from the coveted collection. Celebrity BAYC holders include Stephen Curry, Snoop Dogg, Logan Paul, Shaq, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Dave Chapelle.

One of the reasons people believe has propelled Eminem to buy the digital collection is the resemblance of the BAYC NFT with his image. The hat and gold chain which the Ape in question wears is representative of Eminem.

The rapper reportedly acquired the BAYC from NFT collector Gee Gazza.

“I’m living in a simulation. Thank you @Eminem for buying my ape and joining the club! Madness. Let me write a lyric in your next single,”

he posted on the last day of 2021.

However, because the artist did not confirm the purchase, many doubted if it was him. However, blockchain data shows that the new owner of the BAYC #9055 on OpenSea is called “Shady_Holdings.” Moreover, the profile picture of Eminem’s Twitter handle quickly changed to the new BAYC NFT.

Regardless, the criticism for the purchase did not stop.

“Imagine paying $452,000 for something you can use on your Twitter profile,”

independent journalist Amy Castor wrote.

This is not Eminem’s first association with nonfungible tokens.

Early last year, Eminem released his NFT collection Shady Con with Nifty Gateways. One of the NFTs from his drop sold for $100,000.

According to data from dappradar.com, Eminem owns around 350 nonfungible tokens at the time of writing.

Getting Eminem to buy your BAYC NFT

Gee Gazza, the former owner of BAYC #9055 has been trying to get Eminem to buy his Ape since last summer. In July, he tweeted to Eminem inviting him to join the club by getting the NFT from him.

“Hey @Eminem, fancy joining @BoredApeYC? I got your ape ready to go,”

Gee Hazza asked Eminem on July 24, 2021.

While some laughed at the idea, many others agreed that it was the perfect NFT for the rapper. However, Eminem left his offer unanswered. Undeterred, Gazza kept his resolve to sell his NFT to the artist.

Months later, in November, he came back with the offer again.

“I still think @Eminem is destined to buy my @BoredApeYC one day,”

 he wrote on Nov 2.

Sure enough. Weeks later, Eminem took him up on his offer, paying a massive $452,000 for the BAYC NFT. It is no wonder that Gazza could not contain his excitement. Not only had he succeeded in getting Eminem to buy his NFT after months of trying, but he had made a massive profit on it too.

Just six months back, Gazza purchased the BAYC NFT for 6 WETH, which was less than $12,000 at the time. Within a few months, he flipped it for a profit of $446,360. Unfortunately, not many get the opportunity to have a business transaction with their favorite artist.

Well, to industry insiders, it was just another day in NFT.
