- Former Pornstar, now Bollywood actress Sunny Leone has entered the fray of NFTs
- Leone is the second Bollywood star to announce an NFT launch after megastar Amitabh Bachchan
- Other Indian actors like the famous Salman Khan will also launch their collectables
YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — As Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) gain in popularity, scores of celebrities and public figures rush to take advantage of the opportunities that come with them.
The race has brought Hollywood stars like Lindsay Lohan, Ashton Kutcher, and Mila Kunis to the world of digital collectibles. However, other leading names from the world of music, sport, and reality shows have also taken interest in non-fungible tokens.
The craze has caught steam in India too. The country boasts of producing over 1800 films in various languages. Bollywood, the leading Hindi cinema industry, represents 43% of Indian net box-office revenue.
Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan kickstarted the NFT race
In Sept, Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan created ripples when he partnered with Indian platform BeyondLife.club to release his collection of Non-Fungible Tokens.
Following the footsteps of the largest NFT marketplace, OpenSea, the Indian platform allows users to upload, mint, publish, and trade or auction unique collectible tokens.
“Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan will be the first one to roll out his NFT collection through BeyondLife.club. These collectables will represent his legendary status and mark the opening of this maiden NFT platform.” BeyondLife.club said in a statement.
Sunny Leone enters the NFT race
Following the announcement of Amitabh Bachchan NFTs, Bollywood fans did not have to wait for long to see how popular the concept had become in India.
A former international pornstar of Indian origin, Sunny Leone first became a hit in adult films before taking her fame to the Indian cinema. Named Karenjit Kaur Vohra after birth, the Indo-Canadian star made her Bollywood debut in 2012. She soon became a star in her native country’s film industry thereafter.
The former porn star is now racing against her industry senior to launch the first NFT collection in Bollywood. Leone has created a separate website for her NFTs and she is partnering with Mintdropz, a Silicon Valley-based startup to launch them.
“I really believe crypto is the future of the world and NFTs give me an opportunity to express myself with art and be able to essentially make each NFT its own unique token which is really exciting. Each one of my NFTs will be 100 percent unique from one another and will have different levels of rarity,” she said.
Another Bollywood icon Salman Khan eyes big on NFT
After Amitabh Bachchan and Sunny Leone, Bollywood celebrity Salman Khan has claimed he will launch his non-fungible tokens.
Taking to Twitter to announce the news, Salman Khan said he is entering the NFT fray. Khan has forged a partnership with Bollywood platform BollyCoin. Salman’s NFT collection will reportedly hit the markets in December 2021.
Joining him in the NFT world is Bollywood Co-Star Sunil Shetty. According to reports, the Indian cinema star has invested in Asia’s biggest Non-Fungible Token platform Colexion.
Built on the Polygon Network, Colexion offers a wide range of digital collectibles to fans from various fields.
With only 20 days left for Amitabh Bachchan’s NFT launch, the race is still on. Sunny Leone has already declared that her collection is ready and will be the first to hit the market.
However, neither she nor her team has declared an exact launch date. Amitabh Bachchan, on the other hand, will allow bidding on his collection on November 3.
Whether or not Sunny Leone will become the first Bollywood star to launch her digital collection is still unknown. However, if her overconfidence proves to be ungrounded, she will almost certainly be the first female Bollywood star with an NFT. Only time will tell.
