YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — North Korea has fired two new long-range ballistic missiles under the direct supervision of the country’s Supreme Leader, Kim Jong Un. The test aims to display the country’s nuclear weapon arsenal capabilities.

Satisfied with the results of the tests, Kim Jong Un called them “a great success,” according to reports. The strategic cruise missiles will further enhance “the combat efficiency and might” of the Korean People’s Army.

This will also prepare the country’s armed forces for an “actual war” situation, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Indicating the test’s success, KCNA reported that the two North Korean nuclear weapon carriers “clearly hit the target 2,000 km (1,240 miles) away.”

North Korea fires ballistic missiles to warn South Korea

The latest test-fire of Noth-Korean ballistic weapons comes as a chilling warning to South Korea amid rising tensions between the nations. As CoinChapter earlier reported, the Korean Peninsula was on the brink of war last week. Kim Jong-un test-fired two ballistic missiles into the sea on October 6, antagonizing its neighbors.

The latest tests come as the country’s response to the recent joint naval drills by South Kora and the U.S.

Kim Jong Un also declared that the Nuclear weapon launch was a clear warning to North Korea’s enemies.

“We should continue to expand the operational sphere of the nuclear strategic armed forces to resolutely deter any crucial military crisis and war crisis at any time and completely take the initiative in it,”

 according to KCNA.

Kim Jong-un is taking advantage of the ongoing global crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The divide in the UN Security Council has also enabled it to take bolder steps in its military plans.

US efforts to contain Pyongyang through intensified sanctions failed to receive support from permanent members China and Russia. As a result, North Korea has fired more than 40 ballistic and cruise missiles through over 20 launch events this year.

South Korea can intercept North Korea’s ballistic missiles

Although rattled by Kim Jong-un’s nuclear aspirations, South Korea is confident of its defense capabilities.

According to Moon Hong Sik, acting spokesperson at the South Korean Defense Ministry, his country faces “very grave and serious” nuclear threats from North Korea. Nonetheless, he assured that their missile defense system could detect and intercept North Korean ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.

The country’s President, Yoon Suk Yeol, also vowed to strengthen South Korea’s defense in partnership with the United States and Japan.

“North Korea has been consistently developing and advancing nuclear weapons capabilities and is now threatening not only South Korea, but the entire world. I think there is nothing North Korea could gain through nuclear bombs,”

Yoon told reporters at his office in Seoul.

Meanwhile, North Korea has further alienated itself from the world by siding with Russia. In the latest United Nations vote to support Ukraine’s territorial integrity, North Korea was among the only four countries that sided with the Kremlin.

North Korea supported Russia in the United Nation’s resolution supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Along with Belarus, Nicaragua, and Syria, Kim Jong Un voted against the resolution that received the support of 143 nations with 35 abstentions. An additional nine countries did not show up to vote.

As North Korea aggressively expands its nuclear arsenal, Pyongyang hopes Russia will emerge victorious. Once the West deals with Vladimir Putin, their attention will turn to Kim Jong Un.
