China foreign minister threatens conflict - breach between US and CCP deepens

YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) – China’s new foreign minister Qin Gang commented during a press conference on Mar 7 that “conflict and confrontation” with the United States is inevitable unless Washington changes course in the wake of the Chinese spy balloon fiasco.

Chinese foreign minister bashes the White House

He delivered a stern and wide-ranging rebuke of US policies, echoing similarly sharp remarks Monday by China’s leader, Xi Jinping. The leader of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) blamed US efforts to contain China for deteriorating relations and suggested Beijing would increasingly seek to push back.

Meanwhile, Qin, who also served as China’s ambassador to the United States, called Washington’s actions a “reckless gamble.”

If the United States does not hit the brakes but continues to speed down the wrong path, no amount of guardrails can prevent derailing, and there will surely be conflict and confrontation.

Qin said on the sidelines of the National People’s Congress in Beijing.

Qin also put the responsibility for the damaged relations between China and the US on the White House, saying the US’ understanding of competition between the two largest economies is nothing but containment and suppression of the Chinese economy. Moreover, US support of Taiwan and military aid to Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion deepened the animosity.

The US claims it seeks to compete with China but does not seek conflict. But in reality, the so-called ‘competition’ by the US is all-around containment and suppression, a zero-sum game of life and death.

US the enemy or a distraction from internal problems?

US officials also blamed China for its aggressive actions during the balloon fiasco. Commenting on the matter, Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the National Security Council, accused China of violating the air space of over 40 countries.

This is the latest example of China scrambling to do damage control. It has repeatedly and wrongly claimed the surveillance balloon it sent over the US was a weather balloon and has failed to offer any credible explanations for its intrusion into our airspace, airspace of others.

Watson said in a Twitter post soon after Beijing leveled the allegations.

During the latest press conference, the Chinese foreign minister also added that “containment and suppression will not make America great, and the US will not stop the rejuvenation of China.” Notably, the aggressive remarks came amid a worsening economic crisis. Thus, the CCP could use an ‘external enemy’ to distract its people from domestic challenges.

The rapidly aging population, the collapsing housing market, and a spreading healthcare crisis are some of the challenges plaguing the Chinese economy.
