YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — China is getting ready to launch a war on Taiwan, according to the island nation’s Foreign Minister. In a recent interview with CNN, Joseph Wu alleged that the signals coming from Beijing indicate that the country is preparing for a full-scale invasion.

“Look at the military exercises, and also their rhetoric – they seem to be trying to get ready to launch a war against Taiwan…The Taiwanese government looks at the Chinese military threat as something that cannot be accepted and we condemn it,”

Wu said.

Tensions grow between China and Taiwan

Relations between Taiwan and China have fallen to the lowest levels in recent years. Against the backdrop of deepened ties between Washington and Taipei, Beijing has on several occasions threatened to attack its unrecognized, self-Governing neighbor.

In August 2022, Chinese rhetoric escalated after Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the US Congress, visited Taiwan.

Notwithstanding the warnings from Beijing, the Biden Administration allowed Tsai Ing-wen, the President of Taiwan, to visit the United States days earlier

Tsai was only transiting through the country on her way to and back from friendly Central American nations. However, US officials, including incumbent House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, used the opportunity to meet her

China quickly condemned the meeting and claimed “It seriously infringes upon China’s sovereignty and territorial integrit.” Moreover, Xi Jinping ordered his forces to launch three days of large-scale air and sea exercises, which Beijing termer as Operation Joint Sword.

In a decisive show of support to Taiwan, the US Navy sent one of its destroyers to areas in the South China Sea claimed by Beijing as a warning.

When will China attack Taiwan?

Since tensions escalated, speculations about the timing of a potential Chinese attack on Taiwan have done the rounds. According to reports, US intelligence believes Beijing is preparing to launch an attack by 2027.

A lot will depend on the changing Geopolitical situation, especially after the Russia-Ukraine war.

However, according to Joseph Wu, China will do due diligence before taking that drastic step.

“Chinese leaders will think twice before they decide to use force against Taiwan. And no matter whether it is 2025 or 2027 or even beyond, Taiwan simply needs to get ready,”

the Foreign Affairs Minister of Taiwan told CNN

Beijing had earlier announced that it would impose a three-day no-fly-zone over Northern Taiwan owing to “aerospace activities” it is conducting. The move would would prevent civilian aircrafts from accessing the island’s air-defense identification zone from April 16 to 18.

However, Xi Jinping’s Government later backtracked from the decision following protests from Taipei, reducing that time to less than 30 minutes.

China has joined hands with Russia to challenge the existing US-led world order. Should Russia succeed in Ukraine, Beijing will look for a favorable time to launch its war. Meanwhile, will the United States be willing to go to war with China? Time will show.
