Many Americans believe US President Joe Biden should not run for re-election

YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — In a recent statement, ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith expressed his belief that Joe Biden should not seek re-election in 2024, asserting that the United States needs a new president.

Smith, a well-known passionate sports analyst, extended his critical gaze to the political arena. Pointing out President Biden’s recent fall on stage during the Air Force Academy’s commencement ceremony, he emphasized the importance of change in the upcoming 2024 presidential race.

Stephen A. Smith wants the Democratic Party to field a new candidate to the White House in 2024, criticizing Joe Biden’s re-election bid

Smith was speaking on ESPN’s “First Take,” when he firmly stated his opposition to Biden’s potential re-election bid. He asked the Democratic party to field an alternative candidate to take the helm of the nation.

The reason for his opposition to Biden? The President’s age. According to the sports commentator, Joe Biden is too old to run again.

“Without trying to engage in any kind of ageism at all, because I don’t believe in it. There does come a point in time where there are certain jobs you don’t need… there are responsibilities that are far, far, far more extensive than a typical 9 to 5 that somebody in their 80s may not need to be doing. I think the presidency is one of them. I just don’t believe somebody in their 80s should be running the country,”

Smith said bluntly.
US President Joe Biden fell at the Air Force Academy commencement ceremony after tripping over a sand bag.

However, Smith does not call for the US President to quit. Unlike some other critics, he doesn’t believe that Biden is not fit to be in the White House. The President should complete his term, but after that, he should make way for a new candidate.

Americans agree that the United States needs a new President

Smith’s statement resonated with many Americans eager for transformative change. A majority of US citizens see Joe Biden’s age as a big challenge.

The incumbent President is nearly 81 years old. By November 2024, when he will seek re-election, his age will be 82. If he wins again and holds office for another 4 years, he will complete his second term at 86. This poses a major challenge for those that question his mental ability.

People have already pointed out that Joe Biden could die while in the White House if he is allowed to go for a second term. In such an event, his Vice President, Kamala Harris, will inherit the Presidency to become the first Woman President of the US.

A recent survey by NBC News indicated that 70% of Americans, including 51% of Democrats, oppose Joe Biden’s bid for a second term. 48% of these cite his age as the main reason why they don’t want him to be President again.

A Yahoo News/YouGov poll of 1,516 US adults conducted from Feb. 23 to 27 also revealed, that almost 70% of registered voters believe President Biden is too old for another term. Notably, a larger proportion of Democrats (48%) agree with this sentiment compared to those who disagree (34%).

In what comes as more bad news for US Citizens, Joe Biden’s most probable challenger is former US President Donald Trump. However, the Republican strongman isn’t much younger. He is almost 77 years old.

A win would mean Trump will complete his term at 82 years old-Biden’s current age. While the US needs a new president, voters are caught between the rock and the hard place
