Long Beach (CoinChapter): CoinGecko has announced the launch of an art-focused NFT called ‘Spotlight’. Artists have often struggled with bridging the gap between clients and sellers. CoinGecko plans to help close that gap with this latest Non-fungible token.
Sven Eberwein will be the first artist to collaborate with CoinGecko. The site has long been a proponent of NFTs, hitting all-time highs in 2020, and even featuring an ‘NFT of the Day’ section on the site.
The big-ticket NFT up for auction is a 1/1 piece by the artist and Tesla’s senior digital design modeler. All proceeds post fees, will be donated to charity. The ensuing pieces will then be won via a lucky draw, or raffle, using CoinGecko candies as entry tokens.
CoinGecko NFT Spotlight auction to take place April 19th
The auction itself will take place on April 19 at 10pm ET, with the lucky draws being announced later. After minting fees, the remaining proceeds will go to Mint.AF. This is a community project created to grow support for NFT artists worldwide.
Eberwein has been at the forefront of NFTs and art for a while now. He is actually the first artist to have their work presented on $MEME. Additionally, his overall goal is to create a more sustainable world by reducing carbon emissions using offset credits.
Non-fungible tokens have exploded in a major way recently in all different walks of life, and potentially none bigger than the art world. NFT art allows both artists and buyers access to each other that didn’t exist before. Unknown artists are seeing their sales soar while amateur collectors are able to grow their portfolios.
Artists such as Beeple and Damian Hurst are already making a big impact through NFTs. Beeple in particular has the highest selling NFT of all-time. His piece “Everydays: the First 5000 Days” sold for $69 million at Christie’s Auction House. It is the third highest selling piece of art of any living artist.
