YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — Lawmakers in the United States (US) Congress are set to approve a fresh aid package to Ukraine. As the country fights off the latest Russian invasion that began in February this year, President Joe Biden’s administration plans to support it with a whopping $50 billion.

According to a recent report by the CBC, the new aid package will follow the recent $12.3 billion package that the US Congress approved last month. The Republican Party, which occupies the opposition benches, has criticized the move.

Mid-Term Elections In The US Threaten Biden’s Democratic Party

According to reports, lawmakers are currently contemplating rushing through the plan before the upcoming mid-term elections. Some fear that the Republican Party (GOP) could gain control of Congress, making it difficult to get approval.

Many voices in the Republican party have slammed the Biden administration for sending billions of dollars to Ukraine. They would much rather see the domestic problems solved first before backing Kyiv against Moscow.

According to Republicans, border security is one of those urgent issues that need attention before Ukraine.

The threat to stop the generous funding for Ukraine comes from House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy. Poised to replace Nancy Pelosi as speaker if the Republicans gain a majority, McCarthy warned earlier this week that his party will not be as generous.

“I think people are gonna be sitting in a recession and they’re not going to write a blank check to Ukraine. They just won’t do it…”

he told Punchbowl News on Tuesday.

Former US President Donald Trump, who eyes to run again on behalf of the Republican Party, has also slammed the Biden administration for its actions in Ukraine.

US Citizens Furious At The $50 Billion Aid Package To Ukraine

President Joe Biden’s political opponents are not the only ones that are furious with the new $50 billion package to Ukraine. Common citizens watching the events unfold are also speaking out against it.

“A U.S. Congressman intends to pass a law on assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $50 billion by January. I want to see all those “My tax dollars will not pay for something I didn’t do!” anti-reparations people marching in the streets,”

one US citizen wrote

Supporters of Donald Trump also pointed out how the US Congress refused to finance his plans to block the country’s border with Mexico.

Other critics of the plan have pointed out how the US Government could instead use the funds to end world hunger. According to calculations by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), we could fight hunger with just $6.6 billion.

Spending $50 billion on war instead of other important things seems too rich for some.

Thomas Massie, United States representative for Kentucky’s 4th congressional district, pointed out that the amount is more than what the US spent annually in Afghanistan.

“Annual US spending in Afghanistan until we exited: $50 billion. US spending in Ukraine this year: $50 billion. No joke. C’mon man, the military industrial complex isn’t going to fund itself,”

he wrote

The mid-term elections are just weeks away and Joe Biden is committed to helping Ukraine against Russia at all costs. It is yet unclear if he will go ahead with such a large package. However, if he does, the Republicans will go to town with the news.
